OPPORTUNITY:
ILLUSTRATOR COMMISSION FOR THE GARDENERS' HOUSE
Background
The Gardeners' House, opening in late spring 2025, is dedicated to celebrating the landscape and stories of West Cornwall, and sharing them with our community. We are working to bring a dilapidated building in the heart of Penzance back to life, transforming it into a place to foster connections with the people who make up the town.
We are here to honour the rich heritage of West Cornwall’s landscape—past, present, and future—to help us cultivate a deeper understanding of the community and the people who have shaped it.
At the heart of our work is a living archive—a growing collection that documents the rich history, heritage, and natural landscape of our region. Built upon a foundation of local stories, history and environment, we will continue to expand our collection with the help of our community.
The restoration of our historic building in Morrab Gardens will provide a welcoming space for wellbeing workshops, community-led green projects, and a sensory garden. At The Gardeners’ House, we are building a place where people can come together, share their stories, and benefit from the environment around us.
What we need
We have recently gone through a branding process, and have created a visual identity which we feel represents our plans and vision for the future. We can supply you with a copy of our branding guidelines and brand presentation on request.
We are also in the process of redoing our website to better show a new visual identity for our project.
We'd like to commission some illustrations which work alongside this brand and and can be used for both print and digital assets. We would specifically like to commission:
a scene which illustrates people using the space in multiple different ways, based on the our Day in the Life page, but showing the activities in a less linear way! We would like this to be a natural feel of a scene which shows the building, sensory garden and surrounding area with people using the space. We'd like to be able to use this as a whole illustration, or take the vector files to use elements of it as separate illustrations

Format
We will need to have all approved artwork supplied as layered vector files upon delivery.
Budget
£1,000, to include initial client consultation and briefing meeting, provision of draft concepts for approval and 2-3 rounds of feedback from client
Timeline

We anticipate making a decision on our chosen illustrator by Monday 17 February.
We would like the work to be completed in mid March 2025.
