The Truffle Hunters + Abundance: Living with a Forest
May 7 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
£8.00 – £12.00

Join us for a relaxed and convivial film night as part of our month-long celebration of Fermentation, Foraging and the Field. This evening invites you to slow down, gather together, and explore stories of land, tradition, and the delicate relationships between people and ecosystems.
We’ll begin with Abundance: Living with a Forest (2024) by Dolly Kikon (follow @dollykikon on instagram), a poetic and intimate portrait of foraging and jhum cultivation in Nagaland, Northeast India. Following the journey of a forest forager, the film reflects on Indigenous knowledge, community practices, and the fragile balance between livelihoods and environmental change. Dolly had kindly donated the licence for screening of this film in exchange for a donation to a local food charity.
We’ll then screen The Truffle Hunters (2020), directed by Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw. Set deep in the forests of Piedmont, Italy, this beautifully shot documentary follows a group of elderly men who continue the age-old tradition of hunting for the rare and elusive white Alba truffle—an extraordinary delicacy that has resisted all attempts at modern cultivation.
Come along for an evening of film, conversation, and shared curiosity—no expertise required, just an appetite for good stories and gentle connection.
Understanding our ticket prices
We offer a tiered system of pricing for some of our events, so that there should always be a ticket price to suit all purses. We do not want there to be any barriers to you attending our events if you would like to come along. This is why we offer some free, or lower cost, tickets for each of our events.
- Our Free or lower cost tickets are there for you to book if you don’t have much spare money at the moment. We will never ask questions about this – we just ask for an honesty system, where these tickets are booked if you can’t afford a full price ticket but would love to join us.
- Our Standard tickets are an affordable option, designed to help us cover the cost of putting on these events (opening the building, staffing, speakers, any teas, coffees or food and so forth)
- Our higher-price You Support Us option gives you the price to pay a little more for your ticket, as a way of supporting the work of the Gardeners’ House. It allows us to cover the cost of the event AND to have some left over which we can put towards our work as a charity.
Please think about the level of ticket which applies to you when you’re booking.
