Discover the
Gardeners’ House

The Gardeners’ House is dedicated to celebrating the unique stories of West Cornwall, creating a welcoming space for our community to connect with us and the spaces around us.

We are here for the people of Penzance, bringing together the threads of the past,
present and future of our part of Cornwall.

Celebrating our landscape

Donated by Melissa Hardie-Budden – founder of The Hypatia Trust – we have an archive of books and artefacts, giving us access to rich stories and information from the past 200 years.

The archive inspires elements of our workshop and events programme. It is also possible to book appointments to explore it with our Collections Manager.

We want to continue to grow our archive, collecting a snapshot of what life and landscape are like in West Cornwall right now, capturing the sense of belonging. This will be a living archive, a collection for the future. What can you share with us?

Celebrating our people

People are the beating heart of a community and our doors are open to everyone. We want the people of Penzance to walk through them, and discover everything that the Gardeners’ House has to offer.

Our team works closely with local schools, community and youth groups and organisations who care for older people providing opportunities to learn, explore and get involved.

We offer volunteering roles and we will also be fundraising for new community projects. There are lots of ways to become a part of our story.

Celebrating local stories

A place is not just about its landscape – it’s about the people and the stories we have to tell.

The Gardeners’ House is a place to celebrate the West Cornwall community  around us, and this is a thread that runs through our programme  of events and workshops.

We are a welcoming space for you to enjoy, make connections and explore, tell us your own stories, and contribute  to our Living Archive. Become a part of something bigger – help us to create a treasure trove of our community history and its stories.
