Launching Pobel & Tyller, our first periodical

Oct 21, 2026

The Gardeners’ House have just produced our first printed periodical, Pobel & Tyller – translating from the Cornish language into People & Place.

Pobel & Tyller contains stories, and image features from people and our Cornish land – from shell gardens on the Isles of Scilly to archival photographs of the greenhouses in Morrab Gardens. We celebrate our local heroes, our unique micro-climate and the rich tapestry of folk who make up our community.

We commissioned second year Falmouth University graphic design student, Sophia Mason, as part of the university’s micro-internship programme. Sophia created the look and feel for the periodical, as well as a number of beautiful illustrations that are dotted throughout its pages.

To support Sophia in her learning experience, we recruited the voluntary help of Creative Director friend and neighbour of the Gardeners’ House, Howard Miller, to mentor Sophia throughout the process.

Pobel & Tyller was then printed on quality stock at our local printers, Headland, and boasts a hand-stamped cover featuring a beautiful and unique illustration. The inaugural edition also includes a free poster which celebrates wildflowers  – courtesy of local artist Alice Kilpatrick.

We have a small run of just 200 copies for our first edition, which are for sale in our shop, online and at selected retailers in west Penwith. Our online link will be going live soon – watch this space.

All proceeds go directly back into running our charity.

Our next edition will be published in April 2027.
